The New School of Art presents a range of courses, all led by high regarded and well-established art historians and artists who offer continual guidance and support to their students throughout their course.
Beginners Art Classes The-Highlands
Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Regardless of whether you are just beginning, having some fun or developing your artistic skills, our tutors will be able to work with you at your level. Our Beginner art classes are intentionally kept small and intimate by aiming to cap the class sizes at 10 or 12 to allow you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.
Advanced Art Classes The-Highlands
Our Advanced art courses in the greater The-Highlands area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like-minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses The-Highlands
For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater The-Highlands area. The tutors will provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, which will help the students focus on and effectively critique their artworks. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes The-Highlands
Our Life Drawing classes which we offer in the greater The-Highlands area are proving to be a popular choice. We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses The-Highlands
Our Landscape Painting courses in the greater The-Highlands area are 2-day workshops led by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. There will be a focus on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Provided there is good weather, students can draw outdoors as they work with pencil and watercolour, focusing on simplification and abstraction before they move indoors and paint in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. You will be given the opportunity to examine some of her sketchbooks and then you will use your own sketchbooks as reference and as a source of ideas for your own painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.
Portrait Painting The-Highlands
Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater The-Highlands area. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
