Beginners Art Classes Three-Oaks

If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.

Advanced Art Classes Three-Oaks

If as a professional artist you are looking to gain more experience, depth or focus on the work you already create, then our Advanced art courses in the greater Three-Oaks area are ideal for you. Our team of tutors are practising artists and will be available to provide an insight into the current industry and provide technical support to the students. In the Advanced art class you will be surrounded by like-minded artists who wish to define and develop their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We understand that as working professionals you have other responsibilities outside the studio and finding the time to take part in a course can be hard, so we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Three-Oaks

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Three-Oaks area. The tutors provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, to assist students in focusing and critically reflecting on their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. On the course students will gain insight into how their course tutor works and at the same time develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes Three-Oaks

A popular choice are the Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Three-Oaks area. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to explore their creative side and develop their draftmanship in a supportive setting. Tutors will be on hand to provide guidance and instruction. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. This class provides a valuable opportunity to focus on your drawing in a more social way, though there is also tuition and direction if needed.

Landscape Painting Courses Three-Oaks

Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater Three-Oaks area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. While Louise is available during these two days to give advice and one on one tuition, we encourage students to make several paintings. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Three-Oaks

Another course on offer is our Portrait Painting Masterclass, which is a 2-day course in the greater Three-Oaks area led by Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. The second day will give students the opportunity to create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work will be discussed throughout this process and their individual choices will be examined, so as to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The student’s work will be assessed on a one to one basis at the end of the course.
