Art Courses Upper-Dicker

Upper-Dicker is an inspiring and diverse centre for the Arts. It is home to many established artists and also a destination for emerging and aspiring artists. If you are considering taking an art course, Upper-Dicker should be your first choice. The New School of Art presents a range of courses, all led by high regarded and well-established art historians and artists who offer continual guidance and support to their students throughout their course.

Beginners Art Classes Upper-Dicker

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Regardless of whether you are just beginning, having some fun or developing your artistic skills, our tutors will be able to work with you at your level. Our Beginner art classes are intentionally kept small and intimate by aiming to cap the class sizes at 10 or 12 to allow you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve not only individual work, but group work as well. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes Upper-Dicker

Our Advanced art courses in the greater Upper-Dicker area are ideal for professional artists who are looking for more experience, depth or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. In our Advanced art classes you will be among like-minded artists who similarly wish to develop and define their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Upper-Dicker

If you are interested in a more general overview of Fine Art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Upper-Dicker area. The tutors will provide an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting, which will help the students focus on and effectively critique their artworks. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.

Life Drawing Classes Upper-Dicker

The Life Drawing classes we run in the greater Upper-Dicker area are a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class entails drawing the life model in a range of different poses. The Life Drawing classes allow artists to explore their creativity and practice their draftmanship in a focused and supportive environment. Guidance and instruction will be provided by the tutors. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Upper-Dicker

The New School of Art also offers a 2-day Landscape Painting course in the greater Upper-Dicker area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. On this course you will be introduced to Louise’s work and her painting style. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. Some of her sketchbooks will be available to look at and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration to inform your painting. On the second day there will be a group critique of everyone’s work.

Portrait Painting Upper-Dicker

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Upper-Dicker area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. The course will end with a one on one critique of the student’s work.
