We believe rigorous instruction in drawing is vital for all figurative work and this belief underlies our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves the life model being drawn in a number of poses. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. Regardless of your level of ability, this programme will help develop your skills. Landscape Painting Courses Upper Hale
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Upper Hale area. Louise’s work and painting style will be introduced to you on this course. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will give the group the chance to assess everyone’s work.
Portrait Painting Upper Hale
We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Upper Hale area, a 2 day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
