Beginners Art Classes Upper-Hartfield

Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you are new to painting, starting a new hobby or looking to develop an existing painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your current level. Our Beginner art classes are small and intimate (we aim to cap the capacity of the classes at 10 or 12) allowing you to receive all the direction you need from your tutor. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.

Advanced Art Classes Upper-Hartfield

Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Upper-Hartfield area ideal. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. In the Advanced art class you will be surrounded by like-minded artists who wish to define and develop their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. Taking an art course shouldn’t be at the expense of your working life and other responsibilities, so our timetables have been designed especially to fit into your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses Upper-Hartfield

The New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater Upper-Hartfield area for a more general overview of fine art. By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. The programme is taught by professional artists, which allows students to benefit from one to one tutorials as well as be involved in class workshops and discussions. During the course, students will be able to develop their skills and understand how their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes Upper-Hartfield

Our Life Drawing classes which we offer in the greater Upper-Hartfield area are proving to be a popular choice. We believe rigorous study in drawing is essential to all figurative work, and underpins our philosophy as an Art school. Taking part in the class means drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be there to give instruction and guidance. No matter what your level of ability is, this programme will develop your skills. Whether you are looking for tuition and direction, or a chance to work on your drawing in a more social setting, this class will be able to provide that for you.

Landscape Painting Courses Upper-Hartfield

The New School of Art also offers a 2-day Landscape Painting course in the greater Upper-Hartfield area, presented by artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. Weather permitting, students will draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour, before moving onto painting in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. Students can look at some of Louise’s sketchbooks while their own sketchbooks will be used as reference and for inspiration. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting Upper-Hartfield

Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, presents our Portrait Painting Masterclass, a 2-day workshop in the greater Upper-Hartfield area. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. Tim will start the first day with a demonstration, after which you will go on to make small, quick oil sketches, concentrating not on detail but on form, tone and colour. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
