Art Courses West-End

West-End is an inspiring and diverse center of the Arts. It is home to many established artists and also a destination for emerging and aspiring artists. When you think about taking an art course, you should immediately consider West-End. The New School of Art offers courses that are led by highly regarded, well-established and experienced artists and art historians who will guide and support you through your chosen course.

Beginners Art Classes West-End

Our art courses have been created with the whole range of artists in mind, from beginner to professional. Regardless of whether you are just beginning, having some fun or developing your artistic skills, our tutors will be able to work with you at your level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. There will be the opportunity to discuss your ideas with your classmates, while also having one to one time with your tutor to concentrate on your own individual needs.

Advanced Art Classes West-End

Our Advanced art courses in the greater West-End area are perfect for those professional artists who are looking to gain more depth or experience or focus on the work they already create. All of our tutors are practising artists and will be able to give you technical support and provide an insight into the industry as it stands right now. On an Advanced art course you are bound to find yourself in a class of like-minded artists aiming to develop and define their work and challenge their skills and expand their knowledge. We realise that as working professionals it can be hard to juggle your responsibilities and taking part in a course, so we have timetables which can accommodate your busy schedule.

Fine Art Courses West-End

For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater West-End area. By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. During the course, students will develop their skills and gain insight into the way their course tutor works.

Life Drawing Classes West-End

Another class we offer in the greater West-End area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes proivde an opportunity for artists to discover their creative side and practise their draftmanship in a focused, supportive environment. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme is guaranteed to improve your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.

Landscape Painting Courses West-End

Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater West-End area on Landscape Painting. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. The emphasis will be on acquiring the skills of working quickly, freely and dynamically. Weather permitting, students can choose to work outside, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction before painting in the studio. These two days provide the perfect opportunity for students to create a few paintings, as Louise will be available to give guidance and individual tuition. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. The second day will provide an opportunity for the group to critique each other’s work.

Portrait Painting West-End

We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater West-End area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. The first day will be begun with a demonstration by Tim, and then you will create your own small, quick oil sketches which focus on tone, colour and form more than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Students’ work and the choices they made during its creation will be discussed and analysed during this process to discover how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
