Our art courses have been designed with artists of all levels in mind, from beginner to professional. Whether you are just starting to paint, if you are thinking of taking up art as a hobby or if you want to improve your existing skills, our team of tutors will focus specifically on your needs. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons involve both individual and group work. You will be able to share ideas with other students and focus on your individual needs with one to one time with your tutor.
Advanced Art Classes West End
If as a professional artist you are looking to gain more experience, depth or focus on the work you already create, then our Advanced art courses in the greater West End area are ideal for you. All of our tutors are on hand to provide technical support to the students and, as practising artists, can give an insight into the industry as it stands now. You are sure to find like minded artists in the Advanced art class who share your goals – to challenge their skills and knowledge and define and develop their practice. As working professionals, we understand that you have responsibilities outside the studio so finding the time to take part in a course may not be easy, which is why we have created timetables which can fit around your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses West End
For a more general overview of fine art, the New School of Art offers a Fine Art course in the greater West End area. By presenting an introduction to fine art practice – including painting and drawing – our team of tutors will assist students in focusing on and developing a critical awareness of their work. This programme is taught by professional artists allowing students to be involved in class workshops and discussions, as well as one to one tutorials. Over the course, students will understand how their course tutor works and so develop their own skills.
Life Drawing Classes West End
We also offer Life Drawing classes in the greater West End area, which are very popular. We maintain that thorough study in drawing is important to all figurative work and this underlines our beliefs as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes are a chance for artists to practise their draftmanship and indulge their creativity in a supportive, focussed environment. Tutors will be available to give guidance and provide instruction. This programme will improve your skills, no matter your level of ability. Though there is tuition and direction, this class is a great opportunity to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses West End
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2 day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater West End area. This course will show you Louise’s work and painting style. You will concentrate on learning to work dynamically, quickly and freely. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. As Louise will be on hand to give guidance, advice and individual tuition, it is the perfect opportunity for our students to create a number of artworks, and they are encouraged to do so. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting West End
We also offer our Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater West End area, a 2 day course led by artist Tim Benson VPROI, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. This course will introduce students to the artist as they get to know his work and the philosophy behind it. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. On the second day students will produce a large painting, again resisting the urge to add detail. A thorough discussion of students’ work and their individual choices throughout this process will lead to an identification of how to create interest and tension in the composition. The course will conclude with a one on one assessment of the student’s work.
