Art Courses Windmill-Hill
Windmill-Hill, inspiring and diverse, is a hub for the Arts. Not only established artists but also many emerging creatives call Windmill-Hill home. When considering taking an art course, Windmill-Hill is the natural choice. The New School of Art presents courses led by well-established, highly regarded art historians and artists who will support and guide you through the course of your choice.
Beginners Art Classes Windmill-Hill
Our art courses are designed for a wide range of abilities from beginner to professional artists. If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. We aim to cap the capacity of our Beginner art classes at 10 or 12 so we can guarantee the classes are small and intimate, which allows our students to enjoy individual attention from the tutors. Both individual and group work is involved in our Beginner art lessons. Individual one to one time with your tutor will let you focus on your specific needs while you will also be given the opportunity to collaborate with other students.
Advanced Art Classes Windmill-Hill
Professional artists wanting to gain more experience or depth or focus on the work they already create will find our Advanced art courses in the greater Windmill-Hill area ideal. All of our tutors are practising artists and so will be able to give technical support to our students as well as provide an insight into the current status of the industry. In the Advanced art class you will be surrounded by like-minded artists who wish to define and develop their own practice and challenge their skills and knowledge. We understand that taking the time to do a course can be tricky, especially if you are a working professional, so we have developed timetables to suit your busy schedule.
Fine Art Courses Windmill-Hill
Another course offered by the New School of Art is the Fine Art course in the greater Windmill-Hill area, which offers a broader overview of fine art. The tutors will help students focus and critically reflect on their work and painting by providing an introduction to fine art practice, including drawing and painting. This programme is led by working artists, so students can benefit from one to one discussions with professionals, as well as discussions and workshops with their peers. For the duration of the course, students will grow their skills and gain insight into how their course tutor works.
Life Drawing Classes Windmill-Hill
Another class we offer in the greater Windmill-Hill area are the Life Drawing classes, which are proving to be a popular choice. Our belief that thorough study in drawing is essential to all figurative work is the foundation of our philosophy as an Art school. The class involves drawing the life model in a variety of poses. The Life Drawing classes offer an opportunity for artists to explore their creativity and practise their draftsmanship in a focused but supportive environment. Tutors will be able to provide instruction and guidance. This programme will develop your skills, regardless of your level of ability. Although there is tuition and direction for all students, this class provides a chance to work on your drawing in a more social environment.
Landscape Painting Courses Windmill-Hill
Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, runs our 2-day Landscape Painting workshops in the greater Windmill-Hill area. This course will introduce you to Louise’s work and painting style. There will be an emphasis on understanding how to work quickly, dynamically and freely. If the weather permits, working with pencil and watercolour and working on simplification and abstraction can be done outside, and the painting can be done in the studio. Students will be encouraged to make several paintings over both days and Louise will be on hand to provide advice and individual tuition. A number of her sketchbooks will be there for your perusal while your own sketchbooks will be utilized as reference and ideas for your painting. The group will assess everyone’s work on the second day.
Portrait Painting Windmill-Hill
We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Windmill-Hill area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. During the course students will be introduced to the artist, his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. Throughout this process, students’ work will be discussed and their individual choices will be scrutinized to identify how to create tension and interest in the composition. The course finishes with a one on one critique of the work the student has produced.
