If you have just started painting, are starting a new hobby or are thinking of developing your established painting practice, our tutors will work with you at your level. Our small, intimate Beginner art classes are capped at a maximum of 10 or 12 students so as to allow the students to benefit from all the direction they need from the tutors. Our Beginner art lessons combine individual projects and group projects. You will be given the chance to both to discuss your specific needs one on one with your tutor and to share ideas with other students.

Landscape Painting Courses Woolbeding
Artist Louise Balaam NEAC, member of the New English Art Club, presents a 2-day workshop in the greater Woolbeding area on Landscape Painting. On this course you will find out more about Louise’s work and her painting style. The focus will be on learning to work freely, quickly and dynamically. If the weather allows, students will be able to draw outside, working on simplifying, abstraction and working with pencil and watercolour before working on painting in the studio. Students are free to create several paintings over the two days while Louise is on hand to provide advice and individual attention. You will be able to look at a few of her sketchbooks and your own sketchbooks will be used as reference and inspiration for your painting. On the second day everyone’s work will be critiqued by the group.
Portrait Painting Woolbeding
We also offer a 2-day Portrait Painting Masterclass in the greater Woolbeding area, led by Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, artist Tim Benson VPROI. The students will be introduced to the artist on this course, as well as his work and the philosophy behind his work. On the first day, Tim will give a demonstration after which you will create small, quick oil sketches focusing more on form, tone and colour than detail. On the second day students will create a large painting, again without adding detail. In order to identify ways in which to create interest and tension in the work, students’ work will be discussed and their choices examined throughout this process. At the end of the course, the student’s work will be individually critiqued.
