About The Course

2 days | 10am – 4pm | Oils 
Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th June 2026
An engrossing and inspiring course with Andrew James, who is a member of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and New English Art Club. This two day intensive portrait painting masterclass will look at the fundamentals of creating a meaningful and eloquent portrait. Working from the model in our light filled studio, in Forest Row. Andrew will offer technical and theoretical tutorage. The first day will be spent making drawings in pencil & charcoal. The second will be a full day of painting. An opportunity to gain from a highly regarded and successful practising artist. The Masterclass will start with a demonstration by Andrew from the model.
We welcome painters in any stage of their practice.
We have a maximum of 10 students. Materials are not included, information will be emailed on booking.

Pay full amount or deposit.

Balance due no later than 8 weeks prior to the course date.

About The Tutor

Andrew James RP NEAC

Working from Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK. Andrew James is a highly sought-after artist, who has worked on many prestigious commissions of public figures. Winner of the Carroll Foundation Award in 1998. Andrew was previously the Vice President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and is a member of The New English Art Club.

About The Venue

The Red Studio, Emerson College

Emerson College is comprised of a beautiful manor house and many other lovely buildings on a large campus, surrounded by gorgeous countryside. The Red Studio is a spacious light filled detached art studio, within tranquil peaceful grounds.
